The government has already taken serious steps to raise the minimum wage, which has increased by 40% this year. How much will pension pensions be indexed in 2018 in Russia?
Indexation of pensions since 2015 in Russia
Remember, not long ago the pension was indexed by as much as the prices increased over the past year, but, unfortunately, this rule was removed. For the last 3 years, the government has been completely frivolous about the indexation of pensions - for example, in 2016 the growth was only 4%, and then they refused from indexation altogether - they only allocated material assistance in 2017, thereby deciding to make up for the previous year. Over the past year, the indexation, compared to 2015, is also small - only 5%. Thus, the government seeks to save on people who have gone on a well-deserved rest. Why? Pensioners are people who are completely dependent on payments from the state. The state used to keep pensions at a good level, but after the crisis and rising prices, as well as the refusal to index pensions for inflation, pensioners became poorer. And in recent years, the pension has been "under-indexed". This can be seen in this table:
Indexation of pensions in 2018 in Russia for non-working pensioners
This year the situation has changed slightly. As far as I know, for 2018 we already know for sure what, when and how much will be indexed. This information appeared several months ago, so no changes in the indexation schedule are expected. It was also announced that the authorities would seek to raise pensions in Russia to 25 thousand rubles. Roughly the same was stated when the minimum wage was increased, which they also want to raise to this level. Apart from promises, so far nothing has been done, except for a tiny indexation in January this year. Indexation of pensions in 2018 in Russia is already in full swing. Let's take a look at the results.
So, in January 2018, pensions were increased by 3.7%. This is very small, even when compared to 2017. Feral has indexed monthly payments. Here is the exact indexing calendar:
Indexation of pensions for working pensioners in 2018 in Russia
Here the situation is even worse - they are not going to be indexed at all. As was the case last year, the state decided to save money on this part of the population, because these people work and why would they need to increase their pensions anyway, because they already have good income. This year it is known for sure that non-working pensions will not receive indexation. But they will be able to recalculate every year and their pension will increase slightly. But working until the end of life is unlikely to work. Further, the pension will increase significantly, but will it be able to block the income that the job used to bring? Probably not.
In my opinion, a working pensioner should receive the same amount as an unemployed one. What's the difference - whether a person works or not, the pension should be the same, and the government should not save on this part of the population. It is not beneficial to anyone.
What will happen next with indexing? Latest news
As I said earlier, the government has planned to drastically change payments by 2020 - up to 25,000 rubles. But so far we have not seen any real steps in this regard - just empty promises. There is also information that it is not worth waiting for a sharp indexation in the coming years - it will be about 4 percent. Therefore, only time can show what will happen next.
