A small grocery store is a type of business in which a small entrepreneur is able to successfully compete with supermarkets. Large volumes of purchases of chain stores do not make it possible to take ripe products. A product is purchased that is well preserved for a certain time, which is why unripe vegetables are sold in supermarkets. A small store does not have such restrictions, since the volume of daily sales is at the same level, which makes it possible to purchase goods in small batches. But despite the apparent ease, the vegetable selling business has its own difficulties.
Instructions
Step 1
It is necessary to register as an individual entrepreneur or LLC, obtain permission from the State Trade Inspection, fire service, sanitary and epidemiological station. You will spend at least two months on trips to the authorities. You also need to conclude a contract for the maintenance of the equipment of a vegetable store (scales, cash registers, refrigeration units). A complete set of equipment for the store consists of counters, showcases, slides, a freezer, a refrigerated display case, a cash register, and scales.
Step 2
It is best to open a vegetable store near the metro or in a residential area. This will provide you with a constant stream of buyers. The ideal option would be to open one large store with good storage space and several points of sale in shopping centers. The area of premises for a grocery store should be at least 50-60 square meters, of which 40 square meters should be allocated for a sales area, and the rest of the area should be occupied by warehouse and utility rooms.
Step 3
You need to be responsible when choosing a supplier of vegetables. First, it is better to independently study the vegetable wholesale market, buy products from different suppliers. And only then choose a few fair and with suitable conditions. Purchase goods daily. The main rule is that the products must always be fresh. The spoilage of unsold goods can be as high as 15 percent. Sell such a product with a 50-70 percent discount. In a grocery store, the minimum markup is 30-40 percent, and the maximum is 200-250 percent.
Step 4
The range of a specialized grocery store should contain everything from ordinary potatoes to exotic avocados. The number of product names should not be less than 70-80 units. It is better to place rare vegetables on the upper shelves, this will create the illusion of a rich choice among buyers. The assortment of the grocery store can be supplemented with frozen and canned, as well as juices.
Step 5
Friendly and welcoming salespeople are the key to good sales at the grocery store. Since the main buyers of the store in the residential area are residents of nearby houses, sooner or later they will all become regular customers if they like the quality of the goods and the service in the store.
