Food trade is a very promising business. A small store in the “near home” format does not require huge financial investments, but with proper organization and conduct of business, it can be quite successful.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a form of trade. You can do it on the open display or trade over the counter. The latter option is preferable, since it does not require additional anti-theft systems. Purchase equipment for the store. You will need open shelving and refrigerated display cases for perishable food. Beer and soft drink companies can provide you with beverage coolers.
Step 2
Register the cash register at your point of sale. For a small store, one checkout is enough. Hire salespeople - two shift workers can handle the job. Control the honesty of sellers - the absence of a cash code on the goods gives them the potential to count buyers.
Step 3
Select the suppliers of the product. The best option is wholesalers with the widest range of products, working on deferred payment terms. Strictly monitor the freshness of the product, this is the only way you can keep customers. Complement your basic essentials with original suggestions, such as inexpensive cakes, freshly baked buns from a small bakery, or a wide range of convenience meats.
Step 4
Get involved in pricing. You won't be able to compete with chain stores at low prices. However, you have your own trump card - step-by-step availability and optimal assortment. Set your prices slightly higher than at a nearby supermarket - small differences won't be a problem for your customers.
Step 5
Provide additional services to customers. Place a showcase in the store with related products: pet food, household chemicals, hygiene products. Do not forget about the payment terminal - your customers will appreciate the care for their convenience.
Step 6
Notify the residents of the surrounding houses about the opening of a new store. Hang up notices at the entrances, scatter leaflets in mailboxes. Think of small bonuses for the first buyers - a packet of seeds or candy as a gift for a purchase. Visitors to local shops are not spoiled by the attention from outlets, be a pleasant exception to the rule.
