Step 1

The very first sign that you need to pay attention to is a watermark, which can be seen by looking at the bill in the light. On real banknotes, you can observe an uneven but smooth transition from dark to light tones. Two-thirds of all fakes also have a watermark, but it's darker and more solid.

Step 2

Pay attention to the paper itself. It should be embossed and slightly rough to the touch.

Step 3

The silver dotted stripe is already present on almost all banknotes, including the thousand-ruble ones. On genuine banknotes, one of the shiny stripes at the bottom "runs over" the number 1. On many fakes, there is no protective strip at all, and if there is, then it ends above one.

Step 4

On the real banknotes at the top, where the security line begins, you can read the small text made by microprinting: CBR and the number corresponding to the denomination of the banknote.

Step 5

On the other side of the bill, on the coupon fields, you can see a protective grid. On real banknotes, the grid lines are thin, but clear and without gaps. Dots instead of a grid are a sign of a fake.

Step 6

Let's go back to the thousand-ruble note. When checking it, pay attention to the coat of arms of Yaroslavl. The painted bear shimmers when tilted and changes color from crimson to golden green.

Step 7

On the thousand-ruble bill, next to the purple bear, you can see microperforations in the form of 1000. Swipe it with your finger. On real banknotes, micro-perforation is smooth on both sides. On fakes, on one side, you can feel a slight roughness. This is due to the fact that underground workers use clichés from small needles to create it, while on real money microperforation is done with a laser.
