Maternity benefits in 2016 will continue to be calculated based on the woman's average earnings in the previous two years. From 2016, new limits will participate in the calculations.
Maternity leave is granted only to employed women (and entrepreneurs insured by the FSS). Maternity payments are intended to compensate a woman for her average earnings due to temporary loss of working capacity during pregnancy and after childbirth. A woman's earnings are calculated for the last 2 years, before going on maternity leave. Accordingly, in 2016, the total income of a pregnant woman for 2014-2015 is taken into account.
Maternity leave is granted for a period of 140 days in case of a normal pregnancy, in case of complicated childbirth, it is extended to 156 days, in the case of twins (triplets) - up to 194 days.
Maximum maternity payments are established by law. They are determined taking into account the marginal earnings from which deductions are made to the FSS. It is this fund that is responsible for the payment of benefits in Russia. Employers make monthly contributions to the FSS from the employee's salary in the amount of 2.9% until her income reaches the maximum earnings. The latter is revised upwards annually.
The maximum earnings, which are taken into account when calculating maternity leave for 2016, is 624 thousand rubles. for 2014 and 670 thousand rubles. for 2015. These limits will apply if the employee submits a vacation application between January 1 and December 31, 2016.
Based on the maximum earnings, it turns out that the maximum daily average is 1,772.6 rubles. It is calculated using the formula (670000 + 624000) / 730. Accordingly, the maximum maternity allowances in 2016 are 248,146 rubles. (1772, 6 * 140). With complications in childbirth, this value increases to 276 525.6 rubles, at the birth of twins - 343 884, 4 rubles.
