Step 2
Pay attention to the presence of a watermark. You can only see the watermark if you look at a dollar bill through the light. You should see a portrait of this or that historical figure on the American currency. Note that the watermark is placed on both sides.
Step 3
Take a regular magnifying glass. Look for microprints on the protective vertical strip and around the center portrait. A genuine dollar bill bears the words "USA" and the number (denomination), which must be legible. If you cannot read the labels, these are fake dollars.

Try rubbing the note hard. Take a look at your fingers. There should be no paint on them. High quality dyes are used in the production of the American currency. If the image is smeared at the place of friction, you have a fake.

Take a close look at the dollar bill from different angles. Some elements on it should change color. You cannot achieve this effect with a color printer.

If you look closely, you can see magnetic blotches of different colors in the form of short strings on genuine dollars. They are very difficult to counterfeit.

Feel the banknote. Dollars are printed on special paper that has a rough surface. Plus, it's very durable. Typically, ordinary counterfeiters use book paper.
