A change of surname invariably entails the replacement of a number of documents - from passports (civil and foreign) to a pension insurance card. Are Sberbank bank cards included in this list, do I need to order a reissue, or can I do without it?
Changing a bank card when changing a surname: general rules
Any change in personal data (change of last name, first name or patronymic) is an unambiguous "indication" for replacing all bank cards - both credit and debit. And this applies not only to cards issued by Sberbank: if the surname has changed, you will have to change all the cards that you use. After all, the "plastic" that you use is tied to a current account registered for a person with very specific personal data. And if the surname that appears in the bank documents does not coincide with the surname indicated in the passport, a number of difficulties may arise, for example:
- problems with salary crediting or other payments (the recipient's data in this case will not coincide with the cardholder's data);
- difficulties with processing a refund for goods purchased by bank transfer (the check will contain the name for which the card is issued - and the seller may require that the person specified in the cash documents draw up the documents for the return);
- when contacting the bank in person, not a single issue - from withdrawing funds to blocking the card - will be resolved promptly, first it will be necessary to resolve issues related to data discrepancies
Therefore, it is better not to postpone the change of bank cards "on the back burner" and immediately after receiving a passport issued with a new surname, start putting things in order in financial documents - reissue all bank agreements and get new cards.
How to reissue a Sberbank card when personal data changes
You can order a reissue of a card issued by Sberbank (including MIR cards) either at a bank branch or through your personal account in the Sberbank Online system.
If you prefer to resolve all issues personally, you should:
- pay a visit to the office where the card was issued;
- present the operator with a new passport and a document on the basis of which the surname was changed (most often this is a marriage or divorce certificate issued by the registry office);
- issue an application for the release of a new one.
When ordering a new card through Sberbank Online, the algorithm will be as follows:
- log into the system using your username and password;
- in your personal account, go to the "Cards" section and select the item dedicated to early reissue;
- in the window that opens, enter the data necessary for issuing a new payment instrument (indicating the change in data as a reason);
- choose the office where you would like to receive a new card (in this case, there is no need to go exactly where the previous card was issued);
- send an automatically generated application for consideration by Sberbank employees.
After you are notified of the readiness of the plastic, you will need to go to the bank branch (not forgetting the documents) and get a card issued for a new surname.
