Marriage, of course, is a pleasant event, and you can be congratulated on changing your status and surname. But changing the surname also entails the need to replace some documents. You will have to issue a new passport and a certificate of registration with the tax office, which contains the previously assigned taxpayer identification number - TIN.

What is TIN

TIN is a taxpayer identification number, it is assigned to all citizens-individuals who are payers of personal income tax. The payers of this tax are, for example, persons who have received property by gift or inheritance by will, but are not related to the testator or donor. Be that as it may, but if you received a TIN before the wedding, this means that an official document was issued to you, which indicated your unique code number.

Such a document is "Certificate of registration of an individual with a tax authority on the territory of the Russian Federation." Despite the fact that the TIN itself is assigned to a person only once and remains unchanged throughout his entire stay on Russian territory, this certificate is issued in your maiden name, which means that you will not change the TIN itself, but only this document.

What documents do you need

There is a regulatory document governing the process of replacing the registration certificate in connection with a change of surname, this is the order of the Ministry of Finance No. 114n dated 05.11.2009. includes:

- application for replacement of the certificate in the form 2-2-Accounting;

- passport of a citizen or any other document proving your identity and confirming the place of permanent registration.

If you are not a resident of the Russian Federation and are a foreign citizen, but pay taxes on the territory of the Russian Federation, in addition to your passport, you will need to provide a certificate of registration at the place of registration or at the place of temporary stay. According to the law, you can get a certificate of registration, which will indicate your new surname, no later than in 5 working days.

You can submit these documents to the tax authority in person and hand over there against receipt, but you can also send them by mail, filling them out as a valuable letter with acknowledgment of receipt. In this case, not the originals of the documents should be sent, but their notarized copies.

You can also use the website of the Federal Tax Service www.nalog.ru to leave a corresponding application in the section "Submission of an application for registration by an individual". The certificate will be issued to you in the tax office in accordance with the established procedure, but you can only receive it in person, presenting the originals of the necessary documents.
