It is difficult to imagine modern service in stores without plastic cards. People receive salaries on cards, pay with them and keep money on them. Using the card, you can convert currency and transfer funds to another person's account. If the plastic card has expired, it is considered that it is impossible to withdraw money from it. However, it is not.

Usually the term of validity of plastic bank cards of the Savings Bank of Russia does not exceed 3 years. In order to protect savings and the safety of banking operations, banks do not allow payments with expired plastic cards, just as they do not allow withdrawing a penny from them. The ATM simply will not accept such a card and will not issue the requested amount.

Credit card holders try to keep track of the expiration of the "plastic" and in the month of its expiration they turn to a financial institution for a timely replacement of the card. If you nevertheless expired your Sberbank card, you should not despair. It is enough to apply with a passport to the bank branch that issued you a credit card, and request a new card to replace the old one for a period of 3 years or fill out an application for closing a bank account attached to a plastic card, with the issuance of the balance from the account in cash.

The fact is that only the card itself expires, while financial savings remain in the bank in the personal account of an individual. And they will be kept on this account until required by the person himself or his heir.

Step-by-step guide on how to withdraw money from a Sberbank card and close an account

  1. Contact the bank branch where the card was issued.
  2. Fill out the form in a special bank form for receiving money from your card and closing an account.
  3. If necessary, request an account statement in order to have information about the amounts withdrawn for annual or monthly service or SMS informing.
  4. Show your passport and return the expired plastic card.
  5. A Sberbank employee will direct you to the cashier to receive the remaining amount on the account.

How to withdraw money from a card if the bank has reissued it

Sberbank re-issues a registered bank card if the client, 2 months before the expiration of its validity, has not applied to the bank with a passport and an application to close a personal account. Thus, in case of extending the banking service, you will not have to order a card reissue on your own and return to the branch again. Everything will happen automatically.

  1. To receive a reissued card, from the 1st to the 28th-31st of the month of expiration (only the end month and year are indicated on the card, for example, "10/2019" or "8/2020"), you must go to the Sberbank branch with a passport and an old card …
  2. With you, the new card will be linked to your current personal account, you will be given a new password or the old ones will be linked (at your request). You can also activate or refuse additional services, such as Mobile Bank or Piggy Bank. And most importantly - make sure that the bank employee in front of you cut the old card with scissors.
  3. If the client does not have the opportunity to apply for a new card to the branch where the agreement with Sberbank was concluded, then he is given the opportunity to request the transfer of the reissued credit card at the client's place of residence - to the nearest branch of Sberbank (to the regional branch to which he is currently applying for the service).
  4. After receiving a new card, the client can withdraw the entire required amount of money from it at the same minute through the cashier of the branch or at an ATM.

Important! An expired Sberbank card may continue to receive money transfers and payments (from the place of work, for example), as well as interest from the account balance, if you have not applied to the bank to close the account. Therefore, before throwing away the card, it is worth making sure when personally contacting the department: if there are any funds left on the account, and only then refuse service. If the card has a negative account (an outstanding loan or debts on the account for the automatically debited payment for the bank's services), then a long-term non-repayment of the debt may lead to the bank recovering the missing amount from the debtor through the court.
