The cost of construction design is always calculated taking into account specific conditions, as well as the capabilities and wishes of the customer. The starting point for it is the Reference Price Reference for Design Works for Construction (CBC), which is indexed for the inflation rate. It is necessary to determine the design cost taking into account the composition and stage of the project, the complexity of the implemented solutions and such natural indicators as the total area, construction volume, capacity.

Step 1
When determining the cost of design, use the normative method, which is based on the SBC, the percentage method, in which the cost of design is determined as a percentage of the cost of construction and installation work on the object, as well as the method based on the unit price indicator. It consists in the fact that the total value of the cost is calculated as the product of the specific indicator by the size of the design object. For example, $ 40 per square meter of the total area of the projected object.
Step 2
The normative method allows for the calculation of the cost, which will be the most detailed and transparent. With this method, it is necessary to take into account and discuss with the customer many factors that will affect the cost: design outside the site networks, transfer of communications, integration of the facility into the environment, the use of interlocking solutions, new technologies and additional design solutions.
Step 3
For small projects that require creative effort and for preliminary estimates, use the percentage method and the unit method. At the same time, the cost of design, taking into account the conduct of examinations and approvals, usually amounts to about 4-5% of the cost of construction and installation work on the object. Using approximate calculations, you will get slightly overestimated values when designing small and relatively cheap objects, and when designing large construction projects, this figure will be slightly underestimated.
Step 4
The method using specific indicators is advisable to apply when the main indicators of an object under construction have not yet been finally determined: its volume, area, construction cost. This method allows you to quickly agree on a price, leaving the possibility of adjusting it in the event of atypical situations or tasks. In this case, it is necessary to immediately discuss what is included in the package of services, and what will be considered additional work, thereby eliminating the reason for disagreements and conflicts.
