The publication of any book can be divided into two stages: preparation of the content and the actual publishing activity. In addition, the published book must also be properly presented to the public.
It is necessary
- - a computer,
- - programs for editing, layout, image processing,
- - printing services.
Instructions
Step 1
You can, of course, write in the old fashioned way with a pen on paper. But all publishing processes have long been computerized. Therefore, if you have a manuscript in your hands, then the first thing to do is type it in the form of a file or files. Do it yourself in any text editor or hire a professional typesetter.
The typed text usually needs editing. Use a literary editor as a "fresh head". He will be able to see repetitions, stylistic errors, ambiguities, etc. Also, show the text to the proofreader. He will not interfere with the meaning, but will correct only spelling flaws and punctuation.
Step 2
Think over the design and composition of the book. You can entrust this stage to a publishing house that has specialists in prepress preparation. If you plan to publish books on a permanent basis, then hire your own specialists: layout designer, designer, and build editor. You can try to master the corresponding programs yourself. But these are rather complex specialties that require many skills and knowledge.
Oftentimes, illustrations make a book unique. Get a real artist interested in your idea. Original illustrations can transform a future book into a real event in the publishing world, making it easier for you to organize its distribution. In addition, a properly illustrated cover directly affects sales or readers' willingness to pick up a book.
Step 3
The next steps depend on whether you are acting as an entrepreneur or as an individual. If this is a one-off project for you and you do not want to register as an entrepreneur, conclude an agreement with a publisher for the release of your book. And in the future, control the process of preparing the book as a customer.
If you are an entrepreneur, sign a contract with a printing house. Discuss and calculate the technical characteristics of the book: soft or hard cover, format, paper quality, circulation. All this directly affects the cost of the order.
Consider a distribution system. If the project is non-commercial, then make a selection of addresses to which you will send it. These can be libraries, scientific or educational institutions. For commercial distribution, you will need contracts with distributors of book products and the promotion of your publication.
Think over an advertising campaign for your project. Internet advertising requires the smallest budgets. Organize a press conference for the release of the book. With the right submission, you can count on free reviews. After that, the implementation of the book should go easier.
