The Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia) one of the main tasks in the development of the country's banking sector determines the strengthening of the protection of the interests of depositors. Unfortunately, these interests are increasingly "attacked" by fraudsters. Security measures for banking operations, methods of protecting deposits are constantly being improved. But depositors should also be armed with knowledge of the basic rules for preserving their confidential information.
In August 2012, the Department of External and Public Relations of the Bank of Russia informed the general public that this year more and more cases of receipt of SMS fraud messages to the Bank of the Russian Federation, to its Internet reception, which are committed with reference to the name of the Central Bank of Russia, are being recorded. …
The essence of the fraudulent actions of unidentified persons is that SMS-messages and e-mails are sent to clients of various credit institutions with the news about the blocking of their bank cards. At the same time, it is proposed to make a return call to the phone numbers listed in the SMS messages. The senders in such letters are called the Bank, the name of which is somehow associated with the name of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. These can be such fake addressees as the "Security Service of the Bank of Russia", "Central Bank of Russia" or the variant in the Latin alphabet - CentroBank. The goal is one - to gain confidence in the client and take possession of his confidential information. It is important for cybercriminals to receive the following information in response SMS: personal data of account holders, PIN codes, bank card numbers (allegedly blocked), the amount of funds deposited on card accounts, etc.
The Bank of Russia regards such unauthorized notifications using the name of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation as a new type of fraud and notifies that it has nothing to do with such SMS messages and email campaigns. There is only one recommendation for clients receiving such requests from unidentified persons: to report such facts to the appropriate divisions of the credit institution that issued the bank card.
A concrete example of the fight against illegal actions in the banking sector is the social action "Sberbank Against Fraudsters", which started on July 25, 2012. This action called on Internet users together with the bank to resist financial fraud on the Internet. It is known that swindlers have learned to create illegal sites under the Sberbank brand in order to take possession of the classified information of its clients. Sberbank on its official website talks about simple but effective measures to ensure the security of banking operations in remote service channels: in the Online system, in ATMs, when using mobile services.
