Almost everyone loves watermelons. The most delicious and juicy watermelons are grown in Volgograd and the region. When and how best to transport watermelons, so as not to damage them, which varieties are the most "popular"?
Volgograd is considered one of the most "watermelon" cities in the Russian Federation. Kamyshin is located two hundred kilometers from the city, in which there are many fields sown with melons and gourds. On the opposite bank of the Volga, almost opposite Kamyshin, residents of the r.p. Bykovo also grows large quantities of watermelons. In honor of Bykovo, one of the varieties of watermelon was even named. He has a thick hide and some perceive him as stern. But such a watermelon is easy to transport even three thousand kilometers or more.
The three most popular varieties of watermelon - "Astrakhanets", "Militopol", "Chill"
Watermelons are exported from Volgograd and the region to all corners of the country. From mid-August to the end of October, local melon growers are waiting for wholesalers to pick up the largest and most delicious berry in the world right from the fields. Volgograd watermelons are very juicy, sweet and healthy. The most popular berry weight is from five kilograms and more. If we are talking about such varieties as "chill" or "militopol", then the minimum weight is considered to be seven kilograms. There are specimens of twenty-five and more kilograms. But the "Astrakhan" is a little smaller.
Bad roads - a big "shake down" of watermelons
Transportation of watermelons from Volgograd is not the most pleasant process. The fact is that the quality of local roads is poor. The Volgograd - Syzran highway has not been overhauled for several years, so there is a high risk of “shaking out” if the watermelons are taken out by trucks or KAMAZ trucks. We'll have to drive at a minimum speed until the limits of Saratov, Rostov or Tambov are reached.
When is it better to pick up a watermelon from Volgograd and the region
Most often, Volgograd watermelons are brought to Moscow in order to earn money on the sale of berries, having increased several prices from the original cost. In this case, it is best to pick the berries from the field at the beginning of September, when the "Astrakhanets" ripens. This variety has a juicy taste. Moreover, the weight of the berry varies from five to fifteen kilograms. "Atsrahanets" is well transported, as its bark is quite thick. As for the "militopol" and "chill", it is better to come for these varieties of watermelon in mid-late September, when they are massively ripening. "Militopol", like "Astrakhan", easily tolerates the shaking that is observed along the way, but the "chill", because of its extra juiciness, often cracks. Often, out of the loaded twenty tons, two tons do not reach Moscow. Drivers most often blame the Volgograd roads, and they are 90% right.
Rail transport as an alternative to road transport
Watermelons from Volgograd can be transported by rail. On the one hand, this will take more time - three stages of loading and unloading, which leads to the loss of 1/10 of the berry. However, rail transport is the cheapest. When transported to the destination, the berry is able to retain its qualities. By the way, if you do not touch the watermelon, do not change its position in height, it is able to retain its taste for a month or more. For the most part, this refers to the "military field" and "chill". "Astrakhanets" deteriorates a little faster.
