On January 1, 2018, the period of tax amnesty began in Russia. This means that 42 million people will have their debts written off. However, the innovations do not apply to all citizens, they apply to those persons whose debt arose before the date specified by law.
New rules for debt cancellation
This year, for the first time in Russia, a full debt cancellation will take place. According to experts, for the budget of our country, debt cancellation will not amount to much loss. After all, first of all, we are talking about bad payments. They make up the majority of the available debt. Moreover, if earlier it was mainly entrepreneurs who could apply for debt cancellation, then thanks to modern legislative innovations, the majority of Russian citizens, foreigners and stateless persons will be able to free themselves from burdensome payments. The main thing to take into account is that the debt of citizens must exist until 2015.
What else will the tax amnesty apply to in 2018, besides debt cancellation
The current amnesty is also characterized by an expansive effect. Therefore, in addition to debts, ordinary citizens will be written off all penalties, and entrepreneurs - also fines and debts in the field of insurance.
Debt liquidation procedure
The write-off procedure takes place automatically. In this case, the declarative procedure is not provided. The final decision to write off each amount is made by the tax office. Therefore, if you have any questions related to the tax amnesty, you should contact exactly there or the center "My Documents".
Debt forgiveness stages
The procedure for “forgiving” a debt under the tax amnesty is currently successfully passing through the second stage. The first one ended in February this year. In the current period, the remaining payments and arrears are debited.
Reasons for the introduction of the tax amnesty
The introduction of the institution of "debt forgiveness" (tax amnesty) has a social orientation. According to official sources, first of all, it is aimed at reducing the debt burden. However, the difficulty lies in the fact that citizens, whether they are entrepreneurs or ordinary people, are not always unable to pay off their debts. The introduction of amnesty promotes unwillingness to pay legal fees from solvent taxpayers. A so-called “side effect” arises: unscrupulous persons will wait until the amnesty affects them, without paying the required amounts on purpose.
What to do if the debt has been forgiven, but a letter demanding payment still came
If you fell under the tax amnesty, and, despite this, received a tax notice about the obligation to pay off the debt, you should read it carefully, make sure that the information is correct, and use the next option.
First, you can ignore it. If the taxpayer fell under the amnesty within the stipulated period, then the payment in any case will be debited automatically. Secondly, you can call the tax office and report the error. Thirdly, you can in the near future personally (or through a representative by proxy) apply to the tax office with a passport and documents, with a request to eliminate the error. The application procedure applies to this procedure. Therefore, an error statement can also be sent to the tax office and by mail. It is also important to remember that all payments and debts are displayed without fail in the taxpayer's personal account.
