Students of a Russian-British private university were left without state diplomas. The Moscow Higher School of Economic and Social Sciences, known as Shaninka, has lost its accreditation.
An institution located on the territory of Russia will no longer be able to provide a respite from the army, issue a state sample document.
What is the essence of the problem
Previously "Shaninka" occupied high places in the rating of the Ministry of Education. Several years ago, it even called the institution the leader in the ranking of graduates' salaries.
Sociologist Theodor Shanin became the founder of the higher school in 1995. Among the founders of the university was the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation; among the partners, one can single out the RANEPA, the University of Manchester. The higher school closely cooperates with the latter.
Shaninka's accreditation expired in May. The Rosobrnadzor Commission was invited to receive a new document. At first everything went as usual. The changes began on the third day of work: the auditors phoned the auditors of their organization.
After that, it became clear: there were big problems. The commission left the premises of the school, admitting that they no longer decide anything. Rosobrnadzor explained the essence of its claims: the existing programs do not correspond to the federal standards of the country.
The examiners are not satisfied with the teaching qualifications, material and technical support, or student practice. Employees of a private university came to the conclusion that the pressure that has begun has nothing to do with the quality of education existing in Shaninka.
Is there a way out
Employees of the educational institution recognize all claims as formal, but their consequences are very serious for themselves. The noticeably colder relations between Moscow and London because of the "Skripal affair" led to the closure of the British Council in Russia. His work consisted of educational projects.
Shaninka's problems are associated with the "Russian-British cooling", and not with the quality of teaching in Russian-English higher education. The university will completely lose its attractiveness for applicants without accreditation.
Students will not be able to study here without a state diploma and a respite from military service. More than half of Shaninka's budget, one hundred million, is tuition fees. One year of bachelor's degree is estimated at 300 thousand. Already now, it is easier for applicants to study abroad than to worry about the current situation in a university on the territory of the country.
A similar situation has developed around the European University at St. Petersburg. As a result, the institution lost its license and ceased operations.
The work, according to the rector, does not intend to stop the organization. The issuance of a state sample diploma is planned on behalf of one of the partners of the university. Among them are Russian educational institutions, and foreign ones, included in the top 50 best educational institutions in the world.
However, this option cannot completely solve the problem. But Rosobrnadzor does not think that everything is hopeless. If all violations are eliminated in Shaninka, then a year later the institution will be able to submit a new application for accreditation.
