The ruble is the national currency of the Russian Federation, which, like other monetary units, is subject to exchange rate fluctuations. At the same time, over the past 10 years, the value of the national currency has changed quite significantly.
Ruble's exchange rate
The ruble, which is the national currency of the Russian Federation, is not currently a freely convertible currency, so it cannot be freely sold or bought on the foreign exchange market of any country.
Nevertheless, the Central Bank of Russia daily sets the exchange rate of the national currency in relation to other freely convertible currencies, the most popular of which are the US dollar and the united currency of the Eurozone countries - the euro. In this regard, it is customary to determine the dynamics of the ruble exchange rate in relation to these currencies.
Ruble against the dollar
Over the past ten years, the exchange rate of the ruble against the US dollar has undergone significant changes. Thus, the maximum value of the exchange rate for the period under review was reached in June-July 2008, when one US dollar could be purchased for an amount only slightly exceeding 23 rubles. The ruble / dollar exchange rate reached its minimum mark during two time periods: the first time it happened in February 2009, when the dollar quotes exceeded 36 rubles, and the second time - in 2014, when, after a noticeable fall in previous years, the value of the dollar again jumped the mark of 36 rubles.
Thus, it can be stated that during the ten-year period under consideration, the ruble against the dollar was subject to significant fluctuations: the maximum value reached during this time interval exceeded the minimum by more than 1.5 times. At the same time, if we exclude the most sharp fluctuations, it can be stated that from August 2004, when one dollar was worth about 29 rubles, to August 2014, when its value rose to 36 rubles, the exchange rate of the national currency fell by about 20%.
The ruble against the euro
The second world currency, in relation to which it is customary to fix the ruble exchange rate, is the euro. Fluctuations in its value in rubles over the past ten-year period were also quite significant: the maximum value of the national currency against the euro reached in March 2006, when one euro cost a little more than 33 rubles, and the minimum - eight years later, in March 2014. when the euro was worth more than 50 rubles.
Thus, the spread of quotations for the period under review was about 1.5 times. In total, over ten years, the ruble exchange rate against the euro has changed somewhat less significantly. So, if in August 2004 one euro cost about 35 rubles, then in August 2014 - about 48 rubles. Thus, the fall in the exchange rate of the national currency during this period was about 25%.
