December 29, 2014 V. V. Putin signed a law according to which the amount of insurance compensation for deposits in the bank is now 1,400,000 rubles. This was done in order to prevent the outflow of money from credit institutions, because many deposits in foreign currency went beyond the threshold of the previously accepted insurance amount (700,000 rubles), due to the fall of the ruble against the dollar and the euro. There are some nuances that depositors need to know about the new deposit insurance law.

Who is covered by the insurance

The sum insured in the amount of 1,400,000 rubles applies to absolutely all deposits, regardless of when they were made. If the license is revoked from the bank where your money is kept, then you have the right to compensation for all money, the amount of which does not exceed 1.4 million rubles.

For example, you had several deposits in one bank - 900,000 and 700,000 rubles. It turns out that if the license is revoked, you will be paid a lump sum of 1,400,000 rubles. You can get the remaining 200,000 rubles after the bankruptcy procedure of a credit institution, and then only if it has enough funds for this. As a rule, just for ordinary depositors, a bankrupt bank never has money left to pay off debt, although bank depositors whose deposit size exceeded the insured amount are among the first priority creditors. In general, there is a certain risk.

If you are a family member in one bank and have several deposits, for example, in the amount of 800,000 rubles, and your mother has 600,000 rubles, then your total insurance compensation will be equal to 1,600,000 rubles. According to the new law, each person can count on insurance compensation in the amount of 1,400,000 rubles.

If you have a deposit in foreign currency, then the amount of insurance is calculated based on the rate set by the Central Bank on the day the license was revoked from your bank.

All deposits of the population are automatically insured. You do not need to conclude a separate insurance contract with the bank. If a credit institution is not a member of the general insurance system, then it is not entitled to accept deposits from individuals.

In addition to deposits from individuals, for insured events that occurred after January 1, 2014, the money in the accounts of individual entrepreneurs also became insured.

How is the procedure for reimbursing deposits in case of revocation of the bank's license

Claims are usually announced no later than two weeks after the license is revoked.

You need to come to the agent bank with a passport, where you fill out an application for insurance payment. The money can be immediately received in cash or transferred to an account.

Agent banks are usually the largest banks with a huge number of branches, so there is usually no difficulty in getting money.

Insurance payments on deposits are made for at least two years, the money will be returned at any time convenient for you.
