Selling personal vehicles in good condition often brings the owner quite a tangible income. Under certain conditions, this will require filling out a declaration in the form of 3-NDFL and paying tax on the profits received.
When and how to declare the sale of a car
It is necessary to fill in the 3-NDFL declaration only if the car was sold within three years after its purchase. Older vehicles are not subject to declaration upon sale. In addition, the amount received from sales is taken into account. If it exceeds the cost of the car at the time of purchase and is greater than or equal to 250 thousand rubles, an income tax of 13% is withheld from the resulting difference. In the opposite situation, when the car was sold for less than it was bought, the owner does not need to pay tax because he did not receive income. The declaration is submitted by April 30 of the year following the reporting year.
Tax documents are filled in according to the 3-NDFL form approved by the government annually, available on the official website of the Federal Tax Service. There you can also download a program called "Declaration", which allows you to fill in all the data much faster and easier, and then send it to the tax office. The declaration is submitted by a citizen personally to one of the local offices of the Federal Tax Service or sent online through the taxpayer's personal account. Requisites for using the latter can be obtained directly from the tax office on the passport and TIN.
Filling in and filing a 3-NDFL declaration
Install and run the Declaration program or open the declaration form in the approved form in a text editor. Complete the start page with the required taxpayer information. Then go to the next section, filling in the details of the income received. It is necessary to indicate all taxable income, including at the official place of work (you can clarify the data by ordering a certificate in the 2-NDFL form from the management or in the accounting department).
List vehicle sales as a separate source of income taxed at 13%. In the information about the person, enter the name of the buyer, leave the rest of the fields blank. Fill in the line with the sales amount exactly. Check all the data and see the amount of the calculated tax. The Declaration program calculates it automatically. Save the document in XML format or print it if you want to submit to the tax office in person.
If you have access to your personal account, go to the section for filing a 3-NDFL declaration and upload the previously created file of the corresponding document to the site. Please attach here scanned copies of sales documents, if any. Send the file to the tax office. After checking all the data, after a while, you will receive a notification about the amount, terms and details of payment of the calculated tax to your mailing address.
