The popularity of plastic cards is growing, and for many they have already become a familiar payment instrument that allows them to make non-cash payments both in a store or restaurant, and when purchasing goods and services on the Internet. But the flip side of the widespread introduction of bank cards is the increased interest of fraudsters in them, so no one is protected from unauthorized access to the current account and the fact that money will be withdrawn from the card without the participation of its holder.

Your first steps

The very first thing you should do if your card is “hacked” is to urgently call your issuing bank, ie. the one from whose card the money was withdrawn. Almost every bank has a free round-the-clock "hot" line, through which you can contact the bank without any problems. This phone number is usually shown on your card. So, you can contact the operator of Alfa-Bank by the number: 8 800 200-00-00, with the Bank of Moscow at 8 800 200-23-26, with VTB - 8 800 200-77-99, VTB24 - 8 800 100-24-24, with Gazprombank - 8 800 100-00-89 and with Sberbank - 8 800 555-55-50.

Currently, Russia is the leader among European countries in the number of cases of fraud with bank cards.

Get ready to provide the operator with information by which he can identify you as a valid client of this bank. You will need to give your last name, first name and patronymic, passport data, as well as the code word that you indicated in the contract. After your message about unauthorized actions with the card, the operator must immediately block it, even if the fraudsters managed to steal all the funds stored on it. Write down or remember the name or number of the operator with whom you spoke.

No need to panic

You can count on the bank to compensate you in full for the money withdrawn from your card. The fact is that since January 2014, Article 9 of Federal Law No. 161 "On the National Payment System" came into force. According to her, the bank is obliged to do this, unless it can be proved that you violated the rules for using a bank card. But keep in mind that you will be entitled to compensation only if you promptly inform the bank about the incident - i.e. during the day. The same applies to those cases when the card was lost or stolen.

Keep in mind that banks are now obliged to inform the client about each case of debiting money using SMS messages or e-mail notifications.

Such advice: you must have evidence that you have fulfilled the bank's request for timely appeal. Therefore, it makes sense, after talking with the operator, to contact the bank by e-mail and duplicate your message about the withdrawal of money and the request to block the card. In the letter, indicate the details of the operator with whom you communicated. If possible, visit the nearest branch of this bank and also leave there your statement describing what happened.
