A huge amount of information is bombarded on the human brain every day. The information that you use every day is firmly deposited in your memory, but if some knowledge is used only occasionally, there is a risk of forgetting something important. It is not surprising that many people do not remember the code word from their bank card.
What is a code word?
The code word is the control information required to identify the bank customer by phone. The need for it arises, as a rule, in emergency cases, for example, when a card is blocked, lost or stolen. In addition, many banks, after identifying a client by a code word, can provide information about the account balance or recent transactions over the telephone.
As a code word, you can use not only the word itself, but also an arbitrary combination of letters and numbers. It is not recommended to use publicly available information as a code word, for example, names of yours or someone close to you, dates of birth, nicknames of pets. In order for the client to easily remember even a complex word, the bank operator usually asks a control question, which should remind the client which word he has chosen.
The code word is invented by the client and fits into the application for a plastic card. Most often, the client can choose any word, but sometimes the bank employee gives a few standard key questions to choose from. It is better to come up with a password yourself, because, for example, the answer to the beloved question "mother's maiden name" is known not only to you, but at least your relatives.
The code word must be kept secret in the same way as the pin code, because only it will help you in an emergency, for example, if your card is stolen, urgently block it in order to avoid illegal use by intruders.
Precautions
If you have forgotten your code word, you must definitely change it. To do this, it is enough to come to the bank branch where you issued a bank card with an identity document and write an application for changing the control information.
If you suspect that the code word has become known to someone outsider, immediately notify the bank employees by phone or in person, after which you will also need to issue a change of the code word.
It is best to contact the same bank branch where you received your card to restore or change control information, otherwise you will have to wait longer, since the branch where you applied will send a request to the branch that issued the card. And only after agreeing on all the details, the bank will be able to fulfill the client's request.
