Counterfeit dollars are rarely found in Russia. However, if you often have to deal with US banknotes, you need to know their basic security features. This is the only way you can protect yourself from financial losses, as well as possible problems with the law.

Step 1
The easiest way to distinguish a real dollar from a fake one is to use a special detector. Such devices are available for sale in specialized stores. However, it should be borne in mind that checking with the device will not give you one hundred percent guarantee of the authenticity of the bill. You can get a more accurate result by examining the banknote in detail.
Step 2
Look at the bill in the light to make sure there is a watermark next to the portrait of a historical figure in the United States. This sign must depict the same historical person as in the portrait. The watermark is visible only to light, since it is inside the bill, and not just printed on it. It must be visible from both sides of the banknote.
Step 3
Arm yourself with a magnifying glass. Look around the portrait in the center and on the protective vertical strip for special microprinting. A genuine dollar bill has the denomination and the inscription USA. These signs should be fairly clear and not blurry. If you cannot make out the inscriptions on the bill, then, most likely, you have counterfeit money in front of you.
Step 4
Dollars are printed with high quality dyes. Thanks to this, the image on American banknotes does not fade or fade. A great way to make sure the paint is of high quality is to rub a dollar bill hard. If the paint stains your finger or smudges at least a little, your doubts about the authenticity of the banknote are justified.
Step 5
Take a close look at the dollar bill from different angles: certain elements must certainly change their color. Of course, you won't be able to achieve this effect with a regular color printer. Also on American dollars, you can see magnetic blotches of various colors in the form of the smallest threads, which are very difficult to fake.
Step 6
Feel the bill. Real dollars are printed exclusively on special, fairly durable paper, which is dominated by linen and cotton. As a rule, counterfeiters use plain paper to print books. On this basis, a real dollar can be easily distinguished from a counterfeit one. To the touch, the banknote should be velvety and rough, almost like matter. Plus, real dollar paper is very strong and sturdy. It is not so easy to tear it.
Step 7
If, after all the manipulations done, you still continue to be tormented by doubts about the authenticity of the bill, you need to contact the police for help.
