PayPass is a system embedded in a plastic card in the form of a chip. With the help of it, non-cash payment of an invoice is possible with one movement of the hand - by bringing a bank card to the terminal. What to do if there is a need to disable PayPass on the card?
Due to the presence of a micro-chip in a card with a connected PayPass system, you can, without handing it to the cashier, independently bring it to the payment terminal and pay for any purchase up to 1000 rubles without confirmation with a pin code. But if the card is lost, it is fraught with theft from the account of a large amount of several completed purchases. Indeed, when calculating with a card, the cashier will not even be able to read the owner's name and make sure (upon request of the document) that the card belongs to this person. It is for these reasons that cautious cardholders wish to deactivate the PayPass service.
Almost all modern international MasterCard and Maestro cards are equipped with a contactless payment system. This system is called PayPass. Another Visa card transaction service offers exactly the same technology, but with a different name - Visa payWave. Another format of American Express international cards is equipped with a similar technology called Express Pay.
How to determine if your card is equipped with PayPass
- The card should have a green logo in English - PayPass.
- The card may have a universal symbol that resembles the icon distributed on a smartphone Wi-Fi.
- You can simply try to pay for any purchase in the store at the checkout by holding your plastic card face up to the terminal.
- Or find out about the presence of active PayPass on your "plastic" at the branch of the bank that issued you the card.
PayPass payment protection
All banks that issue cards equipped with the PayPass function guarantee card protection for their owner.
- The first degree of protection is lack of contact with the cashier. You do not let go of your card, which means that it will not get to scammers and the cashier will not be able to do any manipulations with your account. Thus, the owner is in complete control of the situation.
- Funds from the card on the same account will not be debited twice. After the first contact of the card with the terminal, it notifies the transaction with a signal and turns off.
- In case of loss or theft, the card can be blocked, and the money in the account is frozen, as in similar situations with any other bank card, on the first call to the bank or when contacting the online account.
How to disable PayPass on a card
It is possible to terminate the activity of the contactless payment system in the personal account of the bank by opening the card functionality with the connected PayPass.
If your bank does not provide such an option in your personal account, you can contact the bank branch that issued you "plastic" with an application to block PayPass or to change your card to a new one without the possibility of making contactless payments. A passport is required to apply.
