Obtaining a TIN at the tax office
To obtain a TIN, a person must contact the tax office at the place of residence. You must have a copy and original of your passport with you, an application according to the established sample. A sample application is usually posted on tax inspectorate information boards. A few days after submitting the application, it will be possible to come for a certificate. It is possible to obtain an IIN for another person if a power of attorney certified by a notary is presented.
To receive a TIN by mail, you need a copy of the passport certified by a notary, send the application by registered mail with return notification to the tax office at the place of residence with a note on the envelope "On obtaining a TIN certificate".
Obtaining a TIN using an electronic service
You can get a TIN without leaving your home using a special service on the website of the Federal Tax Service (https://service.nalog.ru/zpufl/). On the website, you will need to fill out a standard application form. When filling out the sections of the application, you must save the filling results by clicking on the "Save" button. In the section "Basic information about the applicant" you must fill in the following fields: Surname, First name, Patronymic, Date of birth, Place of birth, Gender. In the block "Information about the place of residence" fill in the fields: Address, Date of registration. In the section "Information on citizenship and identity document" you must fill in the fields: Citizenship, Document type, Country code, document details. You can send the completed application to the tax office, save it on your computer, print it out. For authorized users of the site, it is possible to check the status of the processing of the application. If, when filling out the application in the "Contact Information" section, you indicated your e-mail address, then notifications about the status of the application will be sent to it. In addition, the service makes it possible to find out your TIN, if you already have it, but you have forgotten its number.
The service is convenient in that it allows you to avoid queues when submitting the necessary documents and applications. But for the TIN certificate itself, you must come in person and sign for receipt. This procedure takes a little time and people who come for a certificate, as a rule, are skipped out of line, or a special window is allocated for issuing a TIN. If you cannot come in person for a certificate, the tax office can send it by mail with a receipt acknowledgment.
