Bank credit and debit cards are a convenient means of payment and are accepted in many stores. In addition, you can use them to make purchases on the Internet. Knowing the basic rules for using the card, you can quickly and safely pay for purchases.
Instructions
Step 1
It is very easy to pay for purchases and services with a card. Arriving at the store, make sure that it accepts bank cards for payment, usually Visa and Master Card logos are placed on the doors of such stores. Select the necessary purchases and give the card to the seller. He will insert it into a POS terminal - a special device for reading data from a card. The terminal will contact the bank and check if the required amount is available on your account.
Step 2
If the required amount is available, the purchase process is close to completion. The seller will ask you to sign the check and compare your signature with the signature on the card. In addition, he usually looks at the last four digits of the card number on the check - they must be the same as on the card. This prevents fraudulent use of stolen credit card information. If everything is in order, the payment process is complete, the merchant will return the card to you. The entire procedure usually takes no more than one to two minutes.
Step 3
When paying for goods and services on the Internet, you need to enter the data required by the seller in the form fields, usually this is the owner's name and surname, card number, expiration date and CVV code - the last three or four digits on the back of your card. These numbers, unlike the card number, are not embossed on its surface. If all the data is entered correctly and you have the required amount on your account, the payment will be made.
Step 4
The main problem when paying for purchases and services with a card is the risk of facing fraud, so always follow the safety rules. First of all, never tell anyone the PIN-code of your card. In some stores, it is required to enter it when buying, in this case, when typing, cover the keyboard with your hand, but rather look for another store. In stores that do not require a PIN code, POS terminals do not have a keypad for entering numbers.
Step 5
Never let the seller take your card away, it should always be in your field of vision. If, for example, you pay with your card in a restaurant, ask for a card reader (portable reader), but don't let the waiter leave with your card. It takes a few seconds for a dishonest seller to read your card data using a skimmer - a compact device the size of a cigarette pack. After that, using your card details, payments on the Internet can be made - of course, at your expense.
