The depositors of the Sberbank of the USSR, who had valid deposits as of 20.06.1991, by the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, are entitled to their compensation. Partial compensation payments started back in 1996. They continue today, so some categories of citizens can receive the equivalent of the amount that was on the deposit at that time.

The restoration of the monetary losses of Russians who had cash deposits in the savings banks of the USSR valid as of 20.06.1991 is carried out on the basis of the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 73-FZ. Funds to compensate for lost deposits are annually pledged into the federal budget, the terms and procedure for compensation are also prescribed there, and the categories of citizens who are entitled to them are indicated. All these years, compensation payments to Russians have been made by Sberbank of Russia, which is the legal successor of the Soviet savings banks. Citizens wishing to receive deposits from the times of the USSR should contact the nearest branch of Sberbank. Its specialists will advise you on what actions you need to take to receive payments.

Who is entitled to payments and what does their size depend on?

Today, compensation for Soviet deposits is paid to citizens of the Russian Federation up to and including 1991 for their own and inherited deposits. In addition, compensation for funeral services in the amount of 6 thousand rubles is due to citizens of the Russian Federation who are heirs of deposits, as well as to individuals who paid for funeral services upon the death of a Russian in 2001-2014.

The compensation payment is adjusted by a coefficient that is applied depending on the year of closing the deposit:

• 0, 6 - in 1992;

• 0, 7 - in 1993;

• 0, 8 - in 1994;

• 0, 9 - in 1995;

• 1, 0 - in 1996 and later, as well as - on current deposits.

A calculator for calculating the amount of compensation can be found on the official website of Sberbank, but calculations with its help will show only an approximate amount of compensation. For more accurate information about the total amount of payments and the procedure for receiving money, you need to contact the bank's specialists. They will restore all income and expense transactions on old deposits, calculate the amount of compensation and interest accumulated for the entire time the funds were in the account.

How to get the amounts owed

To receive compensation, it is not at all necessary to apply to the very branch of Sberbank where the deposit was opened in the Soviet years. It is enough to visit any office located nearby and submit the necessary documents: passport and passbook (if the deposit is valid). The absence of a passbook is not a reason for refusing to pay. To receive compensation, you just have to write a statement about its loss. If it is inconvenient for the depositor to apply for money personally, then in order to receive compensation payments and carry out other actions related to this operation, he will have to issue a power of attorney.

It should be borne in mind that today, citizens born before 1945-31-12 inclusively, compensation is paid in triple the amount, from 1946 to 1991 year of birth - in double. Unfortunately, if the deposit was fully paid and closed in the period 20.06.1991-31.12.1991, you are not entitled to compensation payments.
