An example from the 1950s US economy can be cited. After all, its level has increased and the lives of ordinary people have improved financially. After doing a lot of research, experts have come to the same conclusion that the effect on happiness in Americans has hardly changed. As long as income satisfies a person's basic needs for food, housing and other things, it is easy to link and trace the amount of money and the happiness that depends on it. Once financial independence grows, it becomes almost impossible to draw a definite conclusion.

If happiness is considered the main goal in life, will a person achieve it by spending extra time at work in order to pay off a loan, buy a new thing or pay money for an apartment? According to the theory of self-determination, it is possible to achieve the pinnacle of happiness with the help of money, but only by spending it wisely. Perhaps we simply do not know how to distribute our funds.

There are three psychological aspirations:

1. Competence. Maximum development of human talents and their productive use. Self-improvement and the desire to learn something new.

2. Autonomy. Striving for freedom of choice and free time. When a person knows that the actions he performed are motivated by his own needs and desires.

3. Connectivity. Support and understanding of loved ones. The need for deep communication.

Researchers Ryan Howell and Graham Hill in 2009 found that people who buy new clothes, a car, a cell phone, jewelry, or anything else do not get real happiness. Those who spend their money on education, travel, entertainment and gain new experiences, emotions are able to increase the level of happiness much more.

By spending your funds on intangible things, you can get an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. Today, psychologists say that happiness is not in money, but in self-development and new experiences. Of course, money is needed for this and you should not spare money on what is really useful to you in life.
