As you know, according to the old law, men are entitled to a pension from the age of 60, and women - from the age of 55. Most recently, the government of the Russian Federation approved a new draft of this law. It assumes a smooth transition to an increase in the retirement age threshold for all citizens of our country. This should happen over the next five years, from 2019 to 2024. At the end of this period, the male half will have to be 65 years old to calculate the pension, and women - 63 years old. This move by the government was caused by several factors.

Factors that led to the change in the retirement age

In recent years, this figure has increased by more than 10 years and is now 73 years. From this, the amount of pension payments has increased significantly. Therefore, in the near future, public funds for such payments may not remain. Moreover, the government expects to increase the average life expectancy of citizens by another 7-8 years.

There are more and more pensioners in our country. This factor is fundamental for such changes.

The dates that exist now were adopted back in the mid-30s of the last century. During this time, the pension system has completely changed. Therefore, its further transformations cannot be avoided.

All these factors ultimately led to an increase in the retirement age. According to the new law, which was put forward for consideration by the Government of the Russian Federation, the changes will affect men and women born in 1959 and 1964, respectively. If earlier they would have retired in 2019, now this will only happen in 2020. Further, annually the pension threshold will be increased by one year. Consequently, men born in 1960 and women born in 1965 will retire in 2022 and so on in the same sequence.

The Russian government is confident that this measure will significantly increase not only the retirement age, but also pension monthly payments for Russian citizens.
