The development of production largely determines the general economic situation of the country. In most countries, including Russia, different industries are developed unevenly. Nevertheless, the modern post-industrial structure of production in the Russian Federation is capable of meeting a wide range of existing or future needs of the population.

The economic structure of Russia includes two interconnected and mutually complementary types of production. Material production creates tangible values, while intangible production includes works of science, art and spiritual culture.

The manufacturing sector also includes the service sector, which is unique and has great growth potential. The difference between services and other types of activity lies in the fact that its useful result is manifested during labor and is certainly associated with the satisfaction of a certain need. An example would be transportation services or the work of a doctor. Distinguish between material services, such as trade, housing and consumer services, and intangible - health care, education, social services, art and so on.

A special place in the structure of Russian production is occupied by various types of infrastructure that provide general conditions for life. This includes road construction, utilities and energy facilities. Infrastructure plays an integrating role in the economy, interconnecting various industries and imparting integrity to economic activity.

Currently, Russia is distinguished by the predominant development of the service sector, which accounts for about 49% of the gross domestic product. The most developed types of services include trade, transport, communications, restaurants and hotels, financial activities, real estate transactions, education and health care.

The share of the Russian manufacturing industry is only about 16% of GDP. The most noticeable here are such industries as food processing, wood processing, pulp and paper production, chemical industry, metallurgy, machinery and equipment. Mining accounts for about 9% of GDP.

Of all the industrial sectors of the country, the strongest positions are in the production of electrical equipment, chemical production, publishing and printing activities. The extraction of fuel and energy minerals and logging activities stand apart - in terms of the reserves of these resources, Russia occupies high positions in the world ranking.

One of the tasks for the further development of the manufacturing sector is to eliminate the imbalance between individual sectors and accelerate the development of processing industries. Stable and high growth rates of the Russian economy are impossible without structural restructuring of the entire national economy, reflecting changes in market demand.
