Chess turnover sheet in accounting is a form of reflection and generalization of entries in the context of corresponding accounts. The document is a table and contains the totals of business transactions, which are homogeneous in terms of economic content.
Why do you need a chess sheet
The chess list is drawn up in the form of a table. Its horizontal terms are reserved for entries on debited synthetic accounts, vertical columns are intended for entries on credited accounts. The total amounts (turnovers) of all transactions on these accounts are recorded at the intersection of lines and columns. In this case, double reflection of operations is performed by a single write. Unlike a simple turnover sheet, a chess one contains not just turnovers for each synthetic account, but also their terms. Using this document, you can check the correctness and completeness of account entries, identify errors in the correspondence of accounts, and also see the economic essence of business transactions.
In some cases, the chess list may include, together with the turnover, balances on synthetic accounts, such a document is called a chess balance. It is used in organizations where the compilation of a turnover sheet is not provided. The disadvantages of the chess sheet are its cumbersomeness and complexity of drawing up, therefore it is not used in all forms of accounting. The principle of chess recording is used to build accounting registers, in particular, in the case of a journal-order form of accounting, this allows to reduce the amount of work.
Filling in the chess sheet
The checkerboard should be completed based on the transaction log containing all transactions. For a small business, a checkerboard of the approved form No. B-9 is used. The document opens on the first day of each month. The numbers of the sheets are arranged horizontally in ascending order, vertically - the accounts in ascending order. Accounting for business transactions in a small enterprise ends after a month by calculating the totals of turnovers in the sheets used and their obligatory transfer to the chess sheet. It is filled in by transferring credit turnovers from other statements and simultaneously posting them to the debit of the corresponding accounts.
When you finish posting, you need to calculate the amount of debit turnover for each account. It must be equal to the debit turnover shown for this account in the corresponding statement. The total on the debit of each account is summed up, the total amount must be equal to the total amount of turnovers on the credit of the accounts. The amount received should be equal to the sum of the turnover turnover. The use of special programs for accounting, for example, "1C: Enterprise", allows you to generate the final turnover sheets automatically. The checkerboard can be displayed for analysis for any period of time.
