Many employers prefer to issue salary plastic cards for their employees and transfer funds to them. Indeed, it is more convenient for both employees and accountants in the company, because allows you to exclude cash payments and related paperwork.

However, after leaving their previous job, many employees do not know what to do next with the card. There are two options - either close the card, or re-register it as a personal one. Which one to choose depends on whether the user plans to use it in the future.

It is important to note that there is no need to return the card to the employer. the card is the property of the bank. Therefore, only the bank can demand its return. Also, if an employee has a debt to the company, the employer cannot, under any circumstances, unilaterally collect funds from the card. This can only be done by a court decision.

Closing a bank card

Salary cards are serviced free of charge - either the bank or the employer pays for them. However, after dismissal from work, the card begins to be served at standard rates, depending on its category. That is why, in order to avoid debt on the card, it is necessary to write an application to close the card and return it to the bank. Also, some banks may reissue cards without notifying the client, charging an additional fee for this.

Thus, debt can accumulate on the card and it will be impossible to close it without paying off the entire amount of the debt. Therefore, it is better to do this in advance and immediately after the dismissal write a statement asking to close the account. When the client contacts the bank, employees must issue the balance on the account and provide documents confirming its closure.

Some banks automatically block salary cards, but it is better to clarify this point directly at the branch.

Card renewal

If, after dismissal, the cardholder plans to continue using the card, then it should be reissued to himself. Sometimes banks do this automatically and no additional statements are required to write.

In this case, the capabilities of the card will not change, they will depend only on the category of the card. The user will also have access to cashless payments, online purchases, payment for goods and services on the Internet, etc.

It should be borne in mind that on cards with an overdraft (credit limit) issued within the framework of a salary project, further operations will be performed only within the account balance.
