The tax on income received from the sale of a car is 13% of the transaction amount. At first glance, you just need to divide the price of a car specified in the sales contract by 100 and multiply by 13. But there are several nuances that can significantly reduce this amount, or even completely reduce it to zero.

It is necessary

  • - contract for the purchase and sale of the car;
  • - calculator.

Instructions

Step 1

If the car has been in your possession for more than 3 years, you do not have to bother your brain with arithmetic. You do not have to declare the income from the sale or pay tax at all.

The state by default provides you with a tax deduction for the entire amount of the transaction, in other words, it exempts you from tax. And for some time now it is not even necessary to confirm the right to do so.

You don't have to pay tax on this deal at all and still sleep well.

Step 2

The situation is different: the car belonged to you for less than three years, but you earned less than 250 thousand rubles for it.

You don't have to pay the tax again, but a restful sleep is ensured only after going through a number of formalities. Registration of a property tax deduction for the sale of a car that has been owned for less than three years is a separate topic. Here it is worth saying that you will have to tinker with the papers, but you do not need to pay anything, which means there is nothing to count.

It is possible not to claim the right to deduction, but this is unprofitable: the package of papers that will have to be submitted to the tax office anyway will increase by only one application.

Step 3

When the car was owned for less than three years, and the transaction amount exceeded 250 thousand rubles, you will have to use the calculator. To begin with, deduct 250 thousand from the price specified in the purchase agreement (you do not have to pay tax from them). Then calculate 13% of what is left using the appropriate calculator option. Or divide by 100 and multiply by 13 the old fashioned way.

The procedure for declaring income and drawing up a deduction is the same as in the previous case, except that part of the income from the transaction and tax from it will have to be reflected in the contract, and the latter must be paid, which is confirmed by a receipt.
