A grant refers to non-obvious and interesting solutions when financial support is needed to implement an idea. For many, the grant becomes that launching pad, after which a quality life, career and self-realization will take place.
Material: a grant is a gratuitous subsidy, that is, money is issued without interest and without obligations to return, you just need to report on what it went on. And, of course, present the result of the work. There are whole areas of life that do not generate income (for example, helping the elderly or restoring old wooden houses), but are valuable from a social, pedagogical or scientific point of view. For these purposes, in particular, there are grants.
You can get a grant from various sources, these include:
1. Government departments and divisions. The Ministry of Culture, for example, issues grants for projects related to culture and art. Local authorities organize their own grants. Among recent examples, in honor of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Tatarstan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the authorities of Tatarstan issued grants for the creation of prose and poetry on a relevant topic, grants were up to half a million rubles for major prose.
2. Foundations. The most famous of them is "Russian World".
3. Commercial organizations. Of the federal ones, Gazprom is the first to come to mind, and of the regional ones, in the same Tatarstan, for example, Tatneft holds an annual competition in 8 nominations for a grant, and besides that, there is a separate fund that issues subsidies for works of art. In neighboring Bashkortostan, the Bashneft fund operates in approximately the same way.
4. Altruists. Simply put, specific living people who are ready to become sponsors, something like patrons of the arts. Often, however, they create their own funds, as happened with Potanin (Vladimir Potanin's charitable foundation).
In Samara, for example, in 2015, the Tom Sawyer Fest initiative originates, amateur volunteers and professional architects and restorers are engaged in the restoration of old wooden houses from the beginning of the last and the end of the century before last. It all started as a personal initiative of a specific person, and to date this movement has already received two grants.
Another example is studying abroad: someone finishes school in a small town in the Volga region, and wants to study, no more, no less, at Charles University in Prague. The goal is quite realistic and achievable, and a grant for training is only one of the ways to bring it to life.
How to get a grant: Organizations announce a competition and then identify the winners. To take part in such a competition, you need to send an application. The applicant for a grant only has to choose an organization, structure or foundation where he will apply, and there are many of them now. Some are engaged in different areas, from scientific research to the same study abroad. Usually it is recommended to determine the desired area, find a structure that supports the initiative in this sector and apply.
