Step 1

All organizations, individual entrepreneurs, and also those persons who move goods across the customs border of the Russian Federation are recognized as VAT taxpayers. In this case, the amount of tax to be paid in Russian legislation is determined in the form of the difference between the amount of tax accrued at the established rate of the tax base and the amount of tax deductions (paid when purchasing goods or services used in the very activities of the company).

Step 2

The main VAT rate in Russia at the moment is 18%. In addition, the legislation provides for another VAT rate equal to 10%, which is used when selling special types of goods (for example, some medicines, food, children's goods, printed publications), and a 0% rate, which is used when exporting goods. Also, some organizations and individual entrepreneurs receive an exemption from the duties of VAT payers, if for 3 consecutive preceding calendar months the amount of proceeds from sales (excluding VAT) has not exceeded 2 million rubles. Thus, organizations that switch to a simplified taxation system do not pay VAT.

Step 3

In this case, you can very simply calculate the amount with VAT yourself. To do this, you need to divide any amount by the unit plus VAT and divide by 100%. For example, if the VAT is 10%, then the amount should be divided by 1.1, if the VAT is 18%, then the required amount should be divided by 1.18. If you multiply the amount by 0.18, then you get the amount of value added tax.

Step 4

In turn, there is a special formula for calculating VAT. For example, let you know the amount S. You need to calculate the amount of VAT, which is 18 percent of S. In this case, the following solution is obtained: VAT = S * 18 / 100. For example, if the amount is 10,000 rubles, then the VAT will be 1,800. VAT = 10000 * 18/100 = 1800.
