When looking to open a retail store, start with market research. Study the state of the market and conduct an analysis of consumer preferences. By comparing one with the other, you can determine which products are in greatest demand and which products are in short supply.

Step 1
Make a business plan. After marketing research is done, this is the first thing to do. Don't forget to include the investment and finance sections. Among other things, in these sections, it is necessary to separately indicate fixed and variable costs, announce the margin, and also indicate the expected profit. If you omit any information, you will not be able to understand whether your business will be returnable.
Step 2
Develop a marketing plan. It is understood as a list of measures aimed at promoting the business, attracting buyers and shares that increase the average check. For a retail store to be profitable, the marketing plan must be taken responsibly. Ideally, it should also contain sections such as advertising and PR.
Step 3
Start choosing a room that will meet the necessary conditions. These may include: place, total area, the presence of utility rooms (which is especially important for grocery stores), a sufficient amount of electrical power, the ability to arrange the necessary equipment, etc.
Step 4
Obtain permission from regulatory authorities - Rospotrebnadzor and Fire Inspection. It may not work the first time. In this case, take note of and eliminate all existing shortcomings and call their representatives again. Without the permission of the supervisory authorities, you will not be able to register a cash register, as well as obtain an alcoholic license (again, if we are talking about a grocery store).
Step 5
Hire staff. Depending on the volume of sales, you must have employees of the contact area (salespeople, consultants, cashiers), maintenance (loaders, cleaners) and management (manager, merchandise expert, administrator). When scheduling staffing, provide a schedule of work. Typically, management staff work 5 days a week with two days off. The only exceptions are commodity experts. They, like all other workers, work in shifts.
Step 6
Purchase trade and technological equipment, as well as cash registers. The latter must be registered. Consider an automation system that is indispensable in modern retail stores.
Step 7
Order a product. Depending on the specifics of the business, it is better to have not one supplier for each type of product, but at least two. If one of them goes out of stock, your shelves won't be empty.
