Instructions

Step 1

A twenty-digit bank account number reveals a lot about the owner of that account. But the information about the bank in the client number is present only in one digit, the ninth from the left. This is the so-called "key". The key controls the correctness of the account entry in the Client-Bank programs. If the key is entered incorrectly, the program will report an error. However, when filling out a payment order on paper, the possibility of a hint is lost, and the key turns into a dumb number.

Step 2

Indirect information about the bank is given by the numbers from tenth to thirteenth in a bank client account. These positions indicate the branch of the bank in which this account is opened. If the bank does not have branches, then positions from tenth to thirteenth are filled with zeros.

Step 3

Full information about banks is contained in BICs - bank identification codes. Each bank in Russia has its own unique BIC. The BIC classifier is controlled and updated by the Central Bank of Russia.

Step 4

BIC is a nine-digit number with a specific structure. The first two digits on the left are the Russian code 04.

Step 5

Further from left to right - the third and fourth digits indicate the code of the territory in the Russian Federation, OKATO. Two zeros in these BIK positions mean that the bank is located in a territory outside of Russia.

Step 6

The fifth and sixth positions in the BIK are the number of the structural unit of the Bank of Russia, the numbers on these positions can vary from 00 to 99.

Step 7

The last three positions of the BIK - from the seventh to the ninth - mean the number of the bank in the division of the Bank of Russia where the bank's correspondent account is opened. The numbers at these positions can take a value from 050 to 999.

Step 8

BIK of cash settlement centers in the seventh-ninth positions has zeros. BIC of the head settlement and cash center ends with 001, other divisions of the Bank of Russia have 002 in the last BIC digits.
