You can pay for a metro ride both by the number of trips and on an unlimited basis. In both cases, the principle “wholesale is cheaper” applies. The more months or trips you pay at the same time, the cheaper they will be.

Step 1
The traditional way of selling metro tickets is by issuing them through ticket offices. To buy a ticket at the box office, wait for your turn, name the type of card you are interested in, pay and receive it. There are tickets for one and several trips, as well as limit and unlimited passes with validity from one month to a year. Please note that buying a ticket for multiple trips is only profitable if you can use them in full before its expiration date. Each card has two such periods: one is several months and begins at the time of purchase, and the second is equal to several days and begins at the time of the first pass.
Step 2
The checkout lines are sometimes long. If you need a ticket for one or two trips, look at the station for an express ticket office. The line to it is not only noticeably shorter, but also moves faster. The secret is simple: in such a cash register, the cards are pre-encoded, and therefore it takes less time to sell each of them.
Step 3
You can buy a metro ticket not only at the box office, but also from the machine. Queues for such machines are rare, because there are more of them than ticket offices, and not all passengers know how to use them. Old-style vending machines sell almost all types of tickets available at the box office. They have horizontal touch screens. To buy a card in such a terminal, select the one that you need, and then pay for it with coins and banknotes of the types that are accepted by the machine. After dialing the required amount, the ticket, check and change will appear in their respective compartments. Take them away.
Step 4
The machines of the new design are distinguished by the presence of vertical screens, which are not sensitive to pressing. These machines only sell tickets for one or two trips. When the terminal is running, the buttons corresponding to both types of tickets are lit. Click the one that corresponds to the type of card you need. The LED in this button will continue to light, and in the adjacent one will go out. Pay for your ticket and soon the pick-up area will be illuminated with bright red LEDs. It will contain a ticket, a check, and change. When picking them up, be careful not to leave some of the coins under someone else's checks.
Step 5
To pass through the turnstile, bring your ticket to the reader located to your right. Seeing the number of trips remaining on the map on the indicator, go to the escalator. You can also find out the number of remaining trips at the small checkout terminal, which is located in the lobby of each station next to the ticket office.
