The cooler the idea itself and its presentation, the more potential applicants will donate their money for its implementation. But there are also paradoxes. In the history of Kickstarter, there have been several truly unique projects that raised fabulous sums, but ultimately failed completely.
Refrigerator Coolest Cooler
It wasn't just an idea. The Coolest Cooler could become a dream come true for all those who love to travel and just go to nature. Convenient and compact, this miracle gadget was supposed to do more than just cool food. The refrigerator was supposed to be able to chop ice, mix cocktails, play music, charge gadgets, and also serve as a cutting table and storage container. The prospect of taking a coolest cooler to a picnic instead of a dozen knapsacks seemed so tempting to many that more than $ 13 million was collected in a month. When the deadline for the delivery of applications approached, no one received anything. Those who wanted to buy a novelty patiently waited until, finally, the refrigerator went on sale, but its price turned out to be three times higher than originally announced. Manufacturers tried to justify themselves by the high cost of delivery, but the fact was obvious: the owners of the project simply miscalculated.
Zano nano drone
At one time, this project was a real favorite on the kickstarter crowdfunding platform. The developers have prepared a really interesting proposal: a unique nano-drone that fits in the palm of your hand, can take pictures in high resolution from a bird's eye view and work without recharging for about a quarter of an hour. For the production of the baby Zano, the authors of the project needed a little less than $ 200,000: according to their assurances, everything was already ready for release - from parts to packaging. Potential buyers were so eager to get hold of nano-drones that as a result, a record $ 3.5 million for the portal was raised on Kickstarter in a few weeks.
Users were patiently waiting for their gadgets - more than 12,000 pre-orders were issued. But when it was time for delivery, customers didn’t get what they expected. The nano-drone took off only a few centimeters, stayed in flight for no longer than a minute, and even more so there was no question of any high-quality shooting. Massive complaints and purchase returns initially led to excuses and new promises from the manufacturer. However, this did not last long: soon the drone developers disappeared altogether. It is assumed that they turned out to be commonplace scammers and simply squandered all the money.
Skarp laser razor
Some projects seem so desirable that people are ready to turn a blind eye to their complete non-viability. The Skarp laser razor is a prime example of this. The creators of the project “played” on the main male “pain” - daily shaving. The innovative razor had to cut hairs gently without a single cut. For its creation, about $ 4 million was collected. No one was at all embarrassed by the "materiel": theoretically, a sufficiently strong laser pulse is required to remove hair, in which burns are inevitable. It is not known how the authors of the project answered this question, but people blindly believed them. Not alarming was the fact that not a single video or real photo with the Skarp razor appeared on the official website for the entire time of fundraising. Needless to say, a laser razor was never produced? This project turned out to be a commonplace scam.
Virtual Ant Simulator Game
Fraud is only half the trouble. The real trouble is when alcohol and debauchery are mixed with it. This is exactly what can be said about the creators of the Ant Simulator game. It was based on an interesting idea - the construction of a virtual universe in which the player could try to live in the role of an ant. The game was based on long-term observations of ant farms, so the players had to "live" the full life of these smartest insects - to participate in wars, create colonies, build houses and get food. To enhance the effect, virtual reality glasses were attached to the game. And even though the sum of the collection on the kickstarter was not very large - about $ 4 thousand - the creators of the game were not able to usefully spend even this money. One of the developers confessed that his partners simply squandered these funds.
3D Printer Peachy Printer
Today, printers that "print" 3D models are no longer uncommon. But a few years ago, this startup was completely innovative. Moreover, the developers of the Peachy Printer 3D printer project promised to make a unique gadget available to everyone. Moreover, users would be able to customize the printer configuration as they like. The project required about $ 50 thousand, but as a result, 10 times more was collected. Unfortunately, a discord happened between the manufacturers themselves, one of whom decided that he needed his own house rather than some hypothetical printer. Money was wasted, potential buyers were deceived. By the way, the project of creating a printer itself turned out to be not entirely a failure, so the second partner still hopes to pull the project out alone.
