Paper money is made of a material of increased strength, but from frequent or careless handling, the bill can be torn or damaged. If such a nuisance happened to your money, do not worry - in accordance with the Directive of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation “On the signs of solvency and the rules for exchanging banknotes and coins of the Bank of Russia, you can exchange a damaged bill free of charge in any state or commercial bank.
Instructions
Step 1
If you notice that the seller has given you change in a torn or defective bill, ask right there, on the spot, to exchange the money for whole ones. The seller is obliged to do this at your first request.
Step 2
If you did not notice that a damaged ruble bill was handed over to you, or when you yourself, through negligence, damaged it, contact any bank, its cash department. You can exchange a bill of any denomination that has retained at least 55% of its area on the scrap where its number is printed. It can even be glued together from pieces or consist of two parts from different bills. In disputable cases, the bank can appoint a special examination, which takes about 10 days. Thus, you can change not only torn money, but also those that have changed color, have oil, colorful spots or other dirt, as well as a high degree of wear.
Step 3
Currency will be more difficult. The ability to exchange a torn or damaged banknote in dollars, euros or other foreign currency depends on the bank employee you contact. At the bank, you may be denied a request to replace a torn bill, or they may require a commission for the exchange, which can be up to 10% of the face value.
Step 4
Often, currency is kept at home, so a large amount of paper money can be damaged or damaged at once. In this case, it is easier to exchange them than one single defective bill. Many banks accept only large amounts in damaged currency for exchange for collection. Then this money is sent to foreign banks, which decide on the payment of adequate compensation. In this case, the service can cost you up to 7% of the nominal value of the amount to be exchanged.
Step 5
When you often travel abroad, it makes no sense to change damaged paper money in foreign currency on the territory of Russia. Take them abroad and exchange them at face value at any issuing bank. These include: the European Central Bank, the US Federal Reserve System, the national bank of the country that issued this currency. In the United States, it is easiest to exchange any damaged dollar bill that has retained more than half of its area. In some cases, you will be exchanged for a whole piece of paper, the size of which is less than 50%, for this you will have to write a convincing explanation of what happened.
