The word "denomination" has several similar meanings used in various spheres of human life - both banking and philately. The denomination, or par value, is the value determined by the issuer, which, as a rule, is indicated on a specific security or banknote. In this case, the real price of securities can differ significantly from its minimum value and is called the market value, determined by the supply and demand for them.

Step 1
Collectible banknotes also have a collectible value, often many times the face value. The same applies to coins made of precious metals - commemorative coins issued on other dates - which initially cost much more than the value of the coin that is printed on it.
Step 2
In philately, the face value denotes the face value of the stamp indicated on the postage sign. This nominal value is easy to determine, but it is usually indicated in the currency of the state in whose territory this mark will be distributed.
Step 3
As a rule, the face value of a stamp in philately is its price when sold in post offices. It consists of the amount of the established postage charged for postage, as well as other postal services and the price of the stamp itself, which is called the franking value. In some cases, the nominal price exceeds the franking price: for example, the postage mark - with a surcharge, if an additional nominal value is indicated on the stamp, in addition to the main one.
Step 4
There are several types of postage denominations. Astronomical denomination is the name for a very large face value of a brand, usually determined during a state's hyperinflation. So, for example, the cost of a brand in the RSFSR at the beginning of the 20s of the last century was 10 thousand rubles.
Step 5
Additional denomination is indicated on the stamp after the "+" sign after the main value of the stamp. This additional postage is unrelated to the provision of postage and is usually used for charitable purposes, community service funding, and the like.
Step 6
If the denomination is not indicated on the stamp, it means that these postage signs were printed for a specific postal service, or it was a non-postage stamp, but originally issued as a vignette for advertising or charitable purposes. Such variants of brands are called non-nominal.
