Free circulation dollar bills exist in seven denominations. These are banknotes worth 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars. At the same time, two-dollar bills are in irregular issue. There are also bills worth over one hundred dollars, but they are purely collectible interest and are not payment tickets.
1 dollar bill
The one dollar banknote has been in print since 1929. It is also the main unit of the American currency. The obverse of the bill features the first President of the United States, George Washington. On the reverse side there is an image of the Great Seal of the United States. This design on the back of a dollar bill is the oldest seen on American banknotes. The obverse image as familiar today first appeared in 1963.
The motto "In God We Trust" appeared in 1957 on all US banknotes after a law requiring it was passed in 1955.
2 dollar bill
This banknote is the rarest of all American banknotes. The banknote was first issued in 1862, but its issue was suspended in 1966. It came into circulation again in 1976. The obverse of the bill depicts the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Engraved on the reverse side is a corrected reproduction of the painting "Declaration of Independence" by American artist John Trumbull.
$ 5 bill
In the form in which it is in modern money circulation, the $ 5 banknote was first issued in 2008, and developed in 2006. On the obverse of the bill is an image of the sixteenth President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. On its back is the Lincoln Memorial.
According to information from the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the amount of five dollar bills was about 6% of the total paper money in circulation in 2009.
$ 10 bill
Modern ten-dollar bills, issued since 2006, depict Alexander Hamilton, the first US Treasury Secretary. The portrait of the politician is on the front of the banknote, and on its back is the building of the US Treasury. The $ 10 bill is the only US banknote with the face facing left in the portrait.
$ 20 bill
The obverse of this banknote bears a portrait of the seventh President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, where he has been depicted since 1928. Therefore, very often the banknote is called "Jackson". The reverse side of the bill shows the building of the White House. The modern design of the banknote was developed in 2006. The number of twenty-dollar bills issued in 2009, according to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, was 11%.

The fifty dollar bill began to be issued in 1961. The appearance of the bill appeared in 2004. The obverse of the banknote depicts the eighteenth President of the United States Ulysses Grant, due to which the banknote is often called "Grant". The back side shows the building of the American Capitol.
$ 100 bill
The one hundred dollar bill is the highest denomination banknote issued since 1969. It was then that the denominations of 500, 1000, 5000 and 10,000 dollars were abolished. The obverse of the banknote features the American inventor, diplomat and statesman Benjamin Franklin. On the back of the note, you can see the Independence Hall building.
The one hundred dollar bill is one of two that does not depict the President of the United States. The second such banknote is the ten dollar bill, which depicts Alexander Hamilton, who was also not president.
For the first time, a $ 100 banknote was issued in 1929. The modern design was developed in 2009.
