When compiling primary documents, mistakes can sometimes be made. If corrections are not made correctly and on time, they can lead to serious consequences, up to and including penalties imposed by the tax authorities. The procedure for correcting errors in the invoice is spelled out in section 4 of the Regulations on documents and workflow.
Instructions
Step 1
Study section 4 of the Regulations on documents and workflow. Read all the rules that you need to remember when making corrections in the primary documentation. At the same time, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the points that are devoted not only to errors in the invoice. In the course of accounting, you can admit many more inaccuracies, so it is better to know the procedure in advance in order to make changes as soon as possible.
Step 2
Make corrections only in the presence of the chief accountant, manager or other responsible person of the enterprise.
Step 3
Examine the nature of the mistake. If inaccuracies were indicated on the basis of incorrect entries in other documents, then corrections must first be made to them. If the error consists in the incorrect spelling of the amount or the text, then it is enough to cross out the error with one flat horizontal line. At the same time, the text under strikethrough should remain readable and clear. It is not allowed to use thick lines or obscure the recording with a proofreader.
Step 4
Write the correct amount or text above the crossed out error. After it, you need to write "Corrected believe", put the date of the amendments and certify this operation with the seal of the company and the signature of the person who issued the invoice. You can also sign the head or chief accountant of the enterprise.
Step 5
Check the consistency of dates, amounts and assignments with the registered data in other accounting documents. If incorrect information was also indicated in them, then it is necessary to correct them as well. Otherwise, during a tax audit, the discovery of an incorrect entry may entail administrative liability with the imposition of penalties. In this case, the company will be deprived of the right to receive a VAT deduction for the current reporting period.
