Transport tax belongs to the category of regional, therefore, the benefits for it will be different depending on the region. Pensioners are entitled to a transport tax concession, but its amount will depend on the decision of the regional authorities.

How to submit documents to receive transport tax relief to a pensioner

Nobody will give a pension to a pensioner just like that. A citizen himself must apply to the tax office at the place of residence with documents and write a statement. If a pensioner cannot independently come to the tax office, his legal representative appointed by the court, or the person on whom the power of attorney is written, must appear there with all the necessary documents.

You can also send documents with an application addressed to the head of the tax inspection by mail. The letter should be with a notification and a list of attached documents. In this case, only copies are sent. Upon receipt, the tax officer will check the attachments and sign the notification.

You can send documents to the tax office in an even easier way. Register on the FTS website, get access to your personal account, and then send scans of documents to the tax authorities. After 10 days, your claim will be reviewed.

You must submit documents for the benefit no later than December 1 of the current year. The benefit must be confirmed annually, and it is better to do this in early November, especially if you send documents to the tax office by mail or through your personal account.

The amount of the benefit should be checked with your tax office.

What you need to get a benefit

Documents that you need to take with you to apply for a benefit:

  • Passport and copy;
  • STS and PTS;
  • TIN and a copy;
  • Pension certificate and copy.

If you have owned a vehicle for a long time, and that you have recently learned that you are entitled to a benefit, you can write a statement at the tax office to recalculate the vehicle tax three years ago. The overpayment will be returned to you to the details you specified in the application. You need to contact the bank where you have a current account and ask for details. Give a copy of the bank details to the tax officer who received your application.
